A theatrical reading on the future of water, between science and climate, at NYU

On the occasion of the World Water Day, which is celebrated every year on March 22nd at the initiative of the United Nations, the Italian House Zerilli Marimò will host a meeting between theatre and scientific dissemination to address one of the most discussed topics also in the world of contemporary sport: the management of water resources and the impact of the climate crisis. On Tuesday, March 24, 2026, at 6:30 pm, there is a theatrical reading organized in collaboration with AIRIcerca New York Chapter and Kairos Italy Theater, a reality active in the promotion of Italian scientific and artistic culture in the United States.

The project, titled Adele’s Daisy and written in 2013 by Marco Vignudelli with the scientific support of the climatologists Sergio Castellari and Carlo Cacciamani, imagines a scenario set in 2055 in the delta of the Po, one of the most exposed Italian territories to the risk of drought and intrusion of salt. In this future reconstruction, water has become a rational and privatized resource, and part of the population survives on the edge of the system, turning into “water lakes”. The text is based on climate models considered plausible by the scientific community and translates data and projections in an accessible way.

The reading is entrusted to actresses Laura Caparrotti and Sonia Villani, with live music accompaniment by Matteo Rini and Melissa Guardiola-Bijur. The introduction is curated by Pietro G. Mazzara di AIRI, while a public comparison with experts from different fields is planned: Castellari himself, today among European references for the study of climate impacts, Michela Biasutti of Columbia University, and Caparrotti as artistic director of the Kairos Italy Theater. The discussion will be moderated by Alessandro Melis of the New York Institute of Technology, with the aim of linking the narrative dimension with scientific and political implications.
