Scoiattolo opens €20 million plant, boosting capacity and targeting international markets

The Italian ravioli company, Scoiattolo, has taken a significant step in its industrial development with the inauguration of its first highly automated production line at a new facility, backed by a total investment of €20 million. The project marks the operational launch of a plant designed to support rising demand and strengthen the company’s position in the fresh pasta market, for branded products and private-label ones.

The new production site, adjacent to the historic facility that has been operating for around 40 years, spans 10,000 square meters and is the result of more than three years of architectural, engineering, and technological development. The structure integrates production, packaging, and logistics into a single industrial platform aimed at improving capacity, quality, and operational flexibility.

An initial phase of the project was completed in mid-2025 with the opening of a logistics warehouse featuring 600 refrigerated pallet spaces. The introduction of a tailor-made warehouse management system (WMS) has enabled more advanced handling of internal flows and product traceability, while the integration of LGV systems has improved safety and efficiency in material handling.

At the core of the new facility is the automated production line, designed to reach a capacity of 1,200–1,400 kg per hour—roughly double that of a single line at the legacy plant. The system incorporates a controlled microclimate cleanroom with sterile overpressure air and an integrated communication system that self-regulates production flows, optimizing operations even during interruptions.

The investment responds to growing market demand and supports the company’s commercial expansion, with significant opportunities in the UK and US markets. The industrial plan also includes the installation of three additional production lines—one scheduled for early 2027—requiring a further €10–15 million investment. At full capacity, each line will be able to produce approximately 6 million kg annually, bringing total potential output to 24 million kilograms. The expansion is also expected to have a notable employment impact: each line will require around 12 additional staff, for a total of up to 48 new roles once fully operational.

Today we are a structured company, capable of innovating and addressing increasingly broad markets without ever losing our family DNA,” said Scoiattolo CEO Lino Di Caro. “The official start-up of the first production line at the new facility is much more than an industrial milestone—it is the tangible result of a journey that began over forty years ago and has been built together with our family.”

Di Caro also emphasized the company’s human capital: “With more than 200 people contributing to this project every day, we can say that our true value lies in the genuine passion that drives us and in our commitment to continuous improvement, bringing the quality of our fresh pasta to the world.”

Beyond production, the new facility incorporates advanced architectural and environmental solutions, including photocatalytic external panels and spaces designed to foster collaboration, such as future green offices and an on-site auditorium.
