The documentary on Giulio Regeni will be screened at NYU

Thursday, May 14, from 18 to 20, at the Casa Italiana Zerilli-Marimò of New York University will be projected the documentary Giulio Regeni. All the evil of the world, directed by Simone Manetti and written by Emanuele Cava. The film, produced in Italy in 2026, lasts 96 minutes and will be presented in Italian with subtitles in English. The initiative is organized in collaboration with the New York Chapter of AIRIcerca, the association that brings together Italian researchers active abroad.

The documentary reconstructs the story of Giulio Regeni, the Italian researcher kidnapped, tortured and killed in Egypt in 2016. Regeni was in Cairo to conduct research on Egyptian independent unions when he disappeared on January 25. His body was found a few days later, on February 3, along a road to the outskirts of the Egyptian capital. Since then the case has become one of the most serious and discussed events in the relations between Italy and Egypt, also for the difficulties encountered in clarifying responsibility and deceiving.

The film chooses to tell those facts through the reconstruction of the Regeni family and the lawyer Alessandra Ballerini, who for years follows the case on the legal level. Paola Deffendi and Claudio Regeni, Giulio’s parents, will participate remotely, along with Ballerini.
