Illva Saronno Holding has announced the acquisition of Amaro Averna and Zedda Piras from Campari Group, a move that reinforces the group’s long-term international growth strategy and strengthens its premium spirits portfolio.
The two historic brands will join a portfolio that already includes Disaronno, Tia Maria, and the renowned Sicilian wineries Florio, Corvo, and Duca di Salaparuta, further enhancing Illva Saronno’s positioning in key global markets.
Founded in 1868, Amaro Averna is one of the most recognised Italian bitters worldwide and is now distributed mainly outside Italy. Zedda Piras, a long-standing symbol of Sardinian tradition, maintains a strong domestic footprint. Their integration is expected to boost Illva Saronno’s presence in strategic markets such as the United States, Germany, and Italy.
The transaction is part of a decade-long acquisition strategy. Illva Saronno began this expansion path with the acquisition of Tia Maria in 2009, followed by Sagamore Rye Whisky in 2023, and Engine Gin in 2024. Today, the group generates around €400 million in consolidated revenue and operates in more than 160 countries.
Commenting on the deal, Illva Saronno CEO Marco Ferrari highlighted its strategic relevance, stating that the acquisition is “a decisive step in strengthening our international footprint and consolidating our leadership in premium spirits.”
From the seller’s perspective, Campari Group CEO Simon Hunt underlined the strategic coherence of the transaction, noting that it is “fully aligned with Campari Group’s portfolio rationalisation strategy and long-term focus on core global brands.”
The closing of the transaction is expected in the first half of 2026.
