The award-winning Italian artist and cultural promoter Danielle Marie Fusco, Artistic Director of The Italian Arts Festival: The Spirit of Italy was officially selected as the protagonist of the 20th anniversary of the New York City Dance Parade and Festival, one of the most important celebrations dedicated to dance and international cultural expression of the city of New York.
This historic event, which brings together over 10,000 dancers representing Korean traditions from all over the world, represents an extraordinary platform of cultural visibility, artistic excellence and community involvement. Within this international context, Fusco and his company will be the only representatives of Italian traditional music and dance, marking a significant moment for the Italian and Italian cultural presence on a global stage.
Officially recognized by Dance Parade, Inc. for its “commitment in the preservation, education and valorisation of the traditional cultural arts of South Italy”, the company of Fusco will take part in several prestigious moments during the festival, including:
Performance ufficiale alla New York City Dance Parade
Presentazione speciale presso l’area Grandstand
Esibizione sul Main Stage Showcase del DanceFest dopo la parata
At the centre of the artistic work of Fusco there is a deep dedication to the safeguard and evolution of the living traditions of South Italy. Through forms such as tarantella and popular dances — Community dances rooted in the regional identity — the company creates a bridge between past and present, integrating live music, narrative and contemporary performing practices to reinterpret the Italian cultural heritage in the modern diaspora.
“It’s an extraordinary honor,” Fusco says. “Representing Italian culture and American Italo — in particular the popular traditions of South Italy — within a global celebration of dance is something deeply personal and important. Our work exists so that these traditions are not only preserved, but lived, embodied and shared between generations and communities. ”
The selection of Fusco reflects a wider cultural movement: rediscovery and celebration of diasporic identity through the arts. In a city like New York — home to one of the largest Italian communities in the world — its presence at Dance Parade emphasizes the current and continuous evolution of Italian cultural expression.
In addition to the performances, Fusco and its company continue to expand its impact through educational initiatives, workshops and collaborations with cultural institutions, promoting greater awareness and appreciation of the different Italian regional traditions.
In celebrating its 20th anniversary, the New York City Dance Parade thus welcomes a participation that represents the lasting strength of Italian cultural heritage: a tribute to the past that actively contributes to building its future.
