From infinitely large to infinitely small, passing through galaxies, neuronal networks and invisible connections, Alberto Di Fabio arrives in New York with Astral Journey into the Timeless Borders, a special event hosted from 8 to 10 May in the spaces of the GR Gallery in Tribeca (The inauguration will be held at the GC Gallery on 8 May at 18.00). A project that combines contemporary art, physics, publishing and reflection on the present, realized with the sponsorship of the Avedon Foundation and in collaboration with IRAE, the international publishing project promoted by Yourban2030 and HF4.
The artist transforms the images of the Hubble Space Telescope into pictorial structures that evoke synapses, constellations and cosmic maps. The result is a visual research that translates contemporary physics studies into art, building a continuous dialogue between macrocosm and microcosm, between universe and human body. In the works of Di Fabio the stars become impulses, galaxies are transformed into neuronal networks and the cosmos assumes the likeness of a living organism.
Inside the GR Gallery, a consolidated reality of the contemporary New York scene, the exhibition is developed as a real immersive pictorial constellation. The viewer crosses a space of connections where the dimensions collapse in one another, returning a unitary and deeply contemporary vision of existence.
The exhibition also accompanies the launch of the new issue of IRAE, editorial project of environmental visual storytelling conceived by Yourban2030 and HF4, with the creative direction of Angelo Cricchi and the care of visual editor Valeria Ribaldi. Designed as an art book able to tell the present, IRAE surpasses the traditional concept of publication and is proposed as an open platform for cultural and artistic confrontation.
Over 200 pages collect contributions from artists, photographers, poets, scientists and contemporary thinkers, called to question the present through visual languages and content capable of stimulating a shared reflection on the issues of sustainability, global crises and collective responsibility.
It is in this context that the project takes on an even more significant international dimension in New York. The arrival of Alberto Di Fabio on the American cultural scene is in fact inserted in an Italian network composed of Yourban2030 and HF4, promoters of a vision that relates scientific research, contemporary art and geopolitical topicality.
The tensions of our time, from wars to environmental emergencies, passing through geopolitical fractures and the unresolved challenges of humanity, thus enter the visual narrative of IRAE as elements of a complex system that art, publishing and critical thinking try to cross and recompose.
For Yourban2030, founded in 2018 in Rome by Veronica De Angelis along with Maura Crudeli, this project represents a further step in the path that combines public art, technological innovation and environmental sustainability. The non-profit organization has distinguished itself over the years for high social impact artistic interventions, from photocatalytic eco-murales to bioresin mosaics, to the projects made in metropolitan areas and international public spaces.
Among the most famous works is “Hunting Pollution”, the largest eco-mural in Europe made in Rome, while abroad Yourban2030 has signed interventions as “Diversity in Bureaucracy” in Amsterdam and the green smart wall sound of Noto. In New York, the organization had already worked at the High School of Art and Design and will continue in 2025 with “Walls of Tomorrow” and the work “Botanic Pulse” in Hell’s Kitchen.
Class 1966, Alberto Di Fabio is today one of the most internationally recognized Italian artists for research that blends art, science and spirituality. After studying at the Academy of Fine Arts in Rome, he developed a pictorial language characterized by dense luminous textures that recall neurons, galaxies, constellations and invisible energy networks.
Among the most iconic elements of its production are the so-called “star maps”, large pictorial surfaces that evoke cosmic cartography and inner dimensions. His works do not represent the cosmos in a scientific way, but suggest an immersive perception of the universe, capable of absorbing the viewer into an experience of expansion and interconnection.
The project is also supported by the Richard Avedon Foundation, an institution born to preserve and enhance Richard Avedon’s artistic heritage, among the most influential photographers of the twentieth century. The foundation houses the archive of the famous American author and promotes exhibitions, publications and international collaborations dedicated to contemporary photography and visual culture.
The reference to the Hubble space telescope ideally crosses the whole project. Considered one of the most revolutionary scientific instruments in modern history, Hubble redefined the understanding of the universe, contributing to fundamental discoveries ranging from dark energy to analysis of the atmospheres of extrasolar planets. And it is precisely from this vision of the cosmos that Alberto Di Fabio starts to build an artistic narrative in which science and imagination meet, transforming the complexity of the universe into aesthetic experience.
