Don Luigi Portarulo will celebrate a Mass for participants in the New York Marathon

On Saturday, November 1, at 5:30 p.m., St. Patrick’s Cathedral on Fifth Avenue in Manhattan will host a Mass dedicated to the participants of the 54th New York marathon. The celebration will be presided over by Fr Luigi Portarulo and will include the blessing of runners in view of the race, scheduled for the next day.

The New York marathon, organized by New York Road Runners and sponsored by TCS, is one of the most popular podistic competitions in the world and attracts every year tens of thousands of runners – usually more than 50,000 – from different countries, including some of the best professional athletes in the world. The religious celebration in the main Catholic cathedral of the city is thought as a moment of recollection for marathonists, regardless of nationality or religious affiliation, before the start of the race.
