Grand Gala of the Caruso Tribute Prize at the Italian American Museum

On Tuesday, October 14, the Italian American Museum in New York hosted the grand gala and the award ceremony of the fifth edition of the Caruso Tribute Prize, the event conceived by Dante Mariti and produced by Melos International, which celebrates Italian-American excellence in artistic, cultural and social fields. The evening, conducted by the television conductor and godmother Veronica Maya together with journalist Rai Nicola Santini, has combined music, awards and moments of reflection.

The winners present were: Luigi Portarulo rector of the Old Saint Patrick Basilica; Joseph Scelsa, President and founder of the Italian American Museum; Silvana Mangione (Vice Secretary CGIE); the young tenor Alessandro Lora, the president of the Comites Enrico Zanon; the lyric tenor of Campania Nicola Pisaniello ambassador of the beautiful song in the world; Germana Valentini, a TV author and Italian writer, the Neapolitan singer Federica Raimo and the law firm of Elia Alaia and Lucia Casaburo, a reference point for the Italian American community. Francesca Pascale was rewarded for her commitment to civil rights, while Ornella Fado was rewarded for the long journey of her television program “Briniamo!”, which reached the twentieth edition. The soprano Katia Ricciarelli and the famous entrepreneur Santo Versace were honored with the Caruso Award, despite their absence for business commitments.

The evening also reserved a special surprise: a short representation of the musical Camicette Bianche, the work of Marco Savatteri, director and Sicilian producer. The musical, already known for its international tour, addresses universal and current themes such as immigration and the fight for the rights of women and workers, in perfect harmony with the spirit of the Caruso Tribute Prize.

“Every edition is an opportunity to celebrate who, with talent and passion, honours our Italian roots all over the world” – commented Dante Mariti, creator of the award.

Joseph Scelsa, president of the Italian American Museum, added: “It was a beautiful moment that combined culture, music and community. Celebrating our Italian heritage in New York is always an honor and privilege.”.

During the evening the importance of Italian roots for all those who, from past generations to present and future generations, live in America maintaining a deep bond with their territory thanks also to the music of Enrico Caruso. As pointed out by Silvana Mangione, Deputy Secretary of the CGIE (Italian General Council in the East): “It is essential to continue to preserve its origins, combining them with everything that a country like the United States can offer to young people. Music has allowed Italy to be known in the world, but also serves to make young Italian talents feel at home, offering new opportunities without losing their identity. With over 7 million Italians living abroad, support for the Italian community is essential to ensure that the new generations can continue to feel Italian even far from their native country”

The Caruso Tribute Prize confirms its role of great importance as one of the most anticipated events of the Italian-American community, capable of combining roots, music and social commitment.
