The Wollman Rink skating rink, in Central Park, opened the season, and with this are 75 years from its inauguration. For the occasion, track management has announced a world record attempt in collaboration with Guinness World Records, with the aim of organizing the most numerous ice skating lesson ever made. The event is scheduled for Friday, January 10th and aims to exceed the primacy established in 2014, when 523 people participated simultaneously in an ice lesson.
The attempt involves about 600 skaters for a 30-minute session dedicated to skating bases, led by professional instructors at Wollman Rink Skate School. The initiative is open to anyone from 10 years on, as long as they have a little familiarity with ice.
In addition to the record attempt, the organization provided a series of collateral activities designed for the public and for participants. There will be, in fact, hot chocolate and free s’mores, as well as gadgets and promotional material related to Wollman Rink. Counting the extreme cold days that hit New York, the idea is not bad..
Even those who do not take part in the lesson will be able to attend the event as a viewer. Wollman Rink, inaugurated in 1950 and became one of the most recognizable skating tracks in the city along with the Rockefeller Center Ice Rink and Bryant Park Winter Village, thus uses the anniversary to strengthen its role as public space and winter aggregation place. Registration to participate in the record attempt is available on the official track site.
