For more than thirty years, the Making Strides of Central Park march is part of the events of the Cancer Consciousness in the United States. The initiative, organized by the American Cancer Society, will also be held this year in New York, Sunday, October 19, 2025, with the support of Novartis as main sponsor. Thousands of people are expected in Manhattan to participate in the walk.
The meeting point will be, as usual, the Naumburg Bandshell, in the west of Central Park. The departure is between 8:00 and 10:30, with the arrival around noon. The route of about 4 miles (just over 6.4 kilometers) crosses one of the most frequented areas of the park and can be interrupted at any time.
The march is open to all, without age limits or particular physical conditions. Participation is free of charge and does not require a minimum donation fee, although the organization encourages to contribute to the fundraising for research and assistance to the sick. Inscriptions can be made online, via the official app of the American Cancer Society, or directly on the spot, where QR codes will be available for registration and signing of the release.
Over the years, Making Strides has become one of the most recognized symbols of breast cancer in the United States. The event takes place in many cities in the country, but Central Park is considered the largest for number of participants and media visibility. In addition to raising funds, the event also serves to maintain awareness of the importance of prevention and early diagnosis, which helped reduce mortality by 43% from the 1990s to today.
The area of the festival next to the Bandshell will host informative stands, refreshments and spaces for official merchandising, whose proceeds will also go to the American Cancer Society. There will also be public baths and dining areas for participants, with additional toilets available at Le Pain Quotidien and Bethesda Terrace.
Donations can be made in cash, with credit card or check at the fundraising tent within the main area. In addition to the economic contribution, participants can leave messages and dedications in memory or in honor of people affected by the disease, a consolidated tradition that accompanies every edition of the event.
According to the American Cancer Society, events like this have a concrete impact on local communities. The funds raised finance psychological and practical support services for patients, as well as research projects and public information campaigns. The involvement of companies, such as Novartis, also contributes to ensuring long-term sustainability of these initiatives.
