The Italian design is the protagonist in Washington, DC with the tenth edition of the Italian Design Day in the world in synergy with the fifth edition of the “Italian Design Week”, which took place yesterday at the Italian Embassy in Washington and which will end this evening with a reception offered to Villa Firenze by the Italian Ambassador in the United States, Marco Peronaci, in honor of the Minister of Culture Alessandro Giuli, in the presence of the protagonists of the Day of Italy.
The guiding thread of the 2026 edition was that of Re-design in the sign of regeneration, a vision that crosses architecture, industry, city and society, proposing new models of sustainable and inclusive development. Mario Cucinella, an internationally renowned architect and founder and creative director of MCA – Mario Cucinella Architects, interpreted this theme as a guest of honour.
A pioneer of design as a creative empathy, Cucinella has brought to Washington the experience of a leading study in the transformation of urban spaces globally, demonstrating how technological innovation and environmental responsibility can converge in a new regenerative economy. On the same day the itinerant installation “Sustainability Box” was inaugurated in the Embassy, which recounts in a playful and interactive way the philosophy of the study, expression of the creative empathy that embodies the approach of Mario Cucinella and the study MCA – Mario Cucinella Architects.
Strategic collaboration with OICE – Association of Italian engineering organizations, architecture and technical-economic consultancy, an alliance that strengthens Italy’s position as a leading technological partner and enhances the excellence of Italian designers on international markets. Among the “Keynote speaker” Marco Ragusa, Director General International Affairs of OICE, whose Vice President Alfredo Ingletti is the first Italian to cover the position of President of the World Federation of Engineering and Consulting (FIDIC), a milestone symbol of the international recognition of Italian engineering.
The protagonists of the event also Azzurra Morelli (Pellemoda), Carlotta de Bevilacqua (Artemide), Carla Migliardi (SINERGIE) and Valeria Lorenzelli (NeARRES Project), awarded together with the same Ingletti as “campions” of creative innovation and sustainability.
This year’s edition of the “Italian Design Week” renews the collaboration between Embassy, Italian Institute of Culture and IMARK by Roberta Marcenaro Lyon. The event is a privileged platform to tell the Made in Italy and as a meeting point between institutions, enterprises, architects and actors of the economic and cultural worlds of Italy and the United States.
