Kirkland Signature wine sold at Costco stores recalled because of shattering bottles; injury reported

Nearly 1 million bottles of wine sold at Costco stores are being recalled after reports of the bottles shattering, leading to at least one laceration injury, according to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC).

F&F Fine Wines International Inc. has received 10 reports of the bottles shattering or breaking resulting in one laceration injury. F&F Fine Wines International Inc., doing business as Ethica Wines, of Miami, FL, imported the wine from Italy.

The recalled bottles of wine were sold in a dozen states, including Iowa, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, North Dakota, Nebraska, Ohio, South Dakota and Wisconsin, from April 2025 through August 2025, for about $8.

The product was sold in green bottles with purple foil on the top and a purple label with the words “Kirkland Valdobbiadene Prosecco Superiore DOCG.”

The wine has the UPC number 196633883742 and a Costco Item Number 1879870.

Consumers are advised to immediately stop using the recalled bottles and not attempt to open them.

“Consumers should discard the recalled bottles in their household trash and contact Ethica Wines for instructions on how to obtain a full refund from Costco,” states the recall.

The recall impacts about 941,000 bottles.
