The Italian Cultural Institute of New York launches High Notes

Tomorrow, Thursday, June 4 at 18.00, the Italian Cultural Institute of New York, directed by Claudio Pagliara, inaugurates High Notes – A New Generation of Italian Musicians Celebrating 250 Years of Musical Friendship between Italy and the United States, a new exhibition dedicated to the most promising young stars of Italian music.

The festival opens with a piano recital by Martina Consonni, one of the most interesting interpreters of his generation. The exhibition is curated by internationally renowned violinist Francesca Dego and includes four concerts celebrating the profound musical link between Italy and the United States in the year when American democracy celebrates its 250 years.

“With this new format – says Claudio Pagliara, Director of the Italian Institute of Culture in New York – the Institute intends to promote some of the most worthy young Italian artists through programs that highlight the cultural and musical dialogue between Italy and the United States, as part of the celebrations for the 250th anniversary of the birth of American democracy. »

From his debut, just ten years old, with the Bacau Philharmonic Orchestra, Martina Consonni won the international audience both as a soloist and as a chamber musician. During his career he collaborated with important directors and prestigious musical institutions, obtaining over 55 first prizes and awards in international competitions.

After the inaugural concert on June 4, the exhibition will continue with:

15 settembre – Erica Piccotti, violoncello, e Leonardo Pierdomenico, pianoforte;
27 ottobre – Lucilla Mariotti, violino, e Alessio Enea, pianoforte;
19 novembre – Giuseppe Gibboni, violino, e Carlotta Dalia, chitarra.

«New York and Italian culture: nothing could be more personal to me. My mother was born and raised in Queens and my father is a famous Italian writer”, explains Francesca Dego, curator of the exhibition. “When the director Claudio Pagliara entrusted me with the task of presenting to the New York public some of the most exciting young Italian musicians, I was immediately excited about it. Today I am proud to present the first edition of High Notes, which celebrates 2026 exploring a 250 year long musical friendship. »

“We inaugurate the festival with the extraordinary pianist Martina Consonni; we will continue with the violinist Giuseppe Gibboni, winner of the Competition Paganini 2021 and recently protagonist of important debuts in the United States, with Lucilla Mariotti and Alessio Enea, with guitarist Carlotta Dalia and with the cellist Erica Piccotti together with pianist Leonardo Pierdomenico, who will also present the young Italian performance. »

«The audience will be able to listen to works inspired by Italy by some of the greatest composers in the history of music, from Bach to Stravinsky, alongside masterpieces by Paganini and Gershwin, rediscovering extraordinary figures such as Mario Castelnuovo-Tedesco and Amy Beach and rarity as Alfredo D’Ambrosio’s refined seating music. I’ll meet you at Park Avenue. »
