Orsero Expands Iberian Footprint with New Logistics Hub in Galicia

Orsero, an Italian company specializing in fresh fruit and vegetables, is accelerating its expansion across the Iberian Peninsula with a new logistics hub in Vigo. Its Spanish subsidiary, Hermanos Fernández López, has finalized the acquisition of a logistics and distribution platform in the Galician city, strengthening its footprint in north-west Spain and Portugal.

The transaction involves a 5,000-square-metre warehouse designed to optimize distribution and enhance service to large-scale retail chains. The facility also includes two retail points within the local wholesale fruit and vegetable market, reinforcing modern and traditional sales channels.

EFFICIENCY AND REVENUE GROWTH

The new hub is expected to leverage synergies with key Atlantic ports—Vigo, Marín, and Oporto—improving logistics efficiency and operational sustainability. The investment could significantly boost the local business, with the potential to triple current revenues, which stand at approximately €12 million.

The platform is positioned as a key component of the group’s development plan. In its initial phase, it will guarantee a ripening capacity of 9,000 tonnes per year of Canary bananas, with the objective of doubling to 18,000 tonnes in subsequent stages.

TECHNOLOGY AND OPERATIONAL CAPACITY

The infrastructure has been designed to meet the standards of large-scale retail distribution and includes:

Refrigeration capacity for 600 tonnes of product, expandable to over 800 tonnes.

More than 1,000 square metres dedicated to packaging, equipped with advanced technologies.

Two operational units within Vigo’s wholesale market to strengthen traditional distribution channels.

ATLANTIC SYNERGIES AND MARKET PRESENCE

The acquisition enables Hermanos Fernández López to bring product flows closer to end markets, reducing delivery times and logistics costs. This represents a strategic step in enhancing competitiveness in a region previously less covered by the group’s distribution network.

This transaction is a fundamental milestone in our journey, strengthening our presence in the peninsula and laying the foundations for future investments and developments in the region,” said Feliciano Freiria, Chief Executive Officer of the Spanish company.

SUSTAINABLE GROWTH AND VALUE CREATION

The investment aligns with a broader strategy focused on localizing services, improving responsiveness to customers, and increasing production efficiency. The new Vigo platform consolidates the role of Hermanos Fernández López as a leading player in the Iberian fresh produce sector, with a strong focus on innovation and the enhancement of its logistics supply chain.
